Description

Jurgis Kairys (Sukhoi Su-26) performing aerobatics at the Kraków Air Show 2010.

Jurgis Kairys (born in 1952) won five medals in the World Freestyle Aerobatic Championship (two gold and three silver). Twice he became the champion of the World Grand Prix of Aerobatics. In 2003 Jurgis won the first Red Bull Air Race, taking place in Austria. This legacy continues to this date with the Su-31 winning again the silver medal in the 2009 World Aerobatic Championships in Silverstone, UK.. Jurgis has invented several aerobatic maneuvers: “Slide Pass”(1992), "Kairys Wheel“(1987), "Small Loop”(1992) and was the first to successfully perform the “Cobra”(1992) maneuver in a propeller driven aircraft in Farnborough aviation exhibition.
