Description
Suomi: Jumalanäiti - Ennusmerkki. Valamon luostarin kirkon alttarihuoneessa Heinävedellä sijatsevaan ikoniin on vertauskuvallisesti kuvattu Jesaja ennustus: "Sen-tähden Herra antaa itse teille merkin: Katso, neitsyt tulee raskaaksi ja synnyttää pojan ja antaa hänelle nimen Immanuel" (Jes 7:14). Aihe palautuu bysanttilaiseen Blahernan Jumalanäidin ikoniin ja sen toisintoon Novgorodin Znamenjie-ikoniin, joka auttoi novgorodilaisia torjumaan suzdalilaiset vihollisjoukot 1169. Kaupungin muurille näkyviin asetettu Jumalanäidin Merkin (Znamenije) ikoni oli vuodattanut kyyneleitä, kun suzdalilaiset olivat ampuneet sitä nuolilla. Tempera, puu (92,5 x 72,5 cm).
