Jules Maciet (1846-1911), bas-relief d'Alfred Lenoir dédicacé "A Jules Maciet, ses amis" Bronze 1914 Bibliothèque du musée des arts décoratifs Issu d’un milieu aisé, érudit, grand amateur d’art, plus philanthrope que collectionneur, Jules Maciet fait don des œuvres qu ’il achète pour l’éducation artistique de tous. Le vaste champ de ses recherches s’étend du Moyen Âge au XIXe siècle. En trente ans, il donne au musée des Arts décoratifs 2404 œuvres. Hanté par la propagation de l’art, il accomplit un travail documentaire considérable : découpant des centaines et des centaines de volumes pour en extraire toutes les images et les classer par séries méthodiques, constituant ainsi les fameux albums « Maciet », aujourd’hui encore véritable mine d’informations pour tout public.
