Deutsch: "Der junge Herr in schwarzem Kostüm mit weissem Halskragen und leicht offenem kurzen Haar, der Kopf nach links gewandt. Das Kostüm in schwarzem Tuch mit aufgesetztem Querstreifen und schwarzen Knöpfen war in der Münchner Hofgesellschaft in den 40er Jahren Mode geworden, ein ähnliches Bekleidungsstück trugen etwa die Prinzen Ludwig und Otto, die späteren Könige von Bayern in ihren Kinderjahren. Öl/Lwd. 68 x 54 cm. Anmerkung: Frau Ulrike von Hase, die Autorin des Werkes über Stieler, die im Zusammenhang mit dem Forschungsunternehmen der Fritz Thyssen-Stiftung über den Maler gearbeitet hat, spricht sich dahingehend aus, dass es sich möglicherweise um ein zwischen 1820 und 1830 entstandenes Selbstportraits Stielers als Student handelt.
