Description
English: Josef Wackernell (1850–1920) was a South Tyrolean Germanist. He graduated from the University of Innsbruck in 1877 and went to the University of Vienna in the same year. After studying in Munich and Berlin, he returned to Innsbruck, qualified as a professor and was appointed associate professor in 1887 and full professor in 1890. The portrait photo is part of a photo album for the early retirement of chemistry professor Karl Senhofer (1841–1904). His colleagues at the Faculty of Philosophy in Innsbruck dedicated the faculty album to him.


Deutsch: Josef Eduard Wackernell (1850–1920) war ein Südtiroler Germanist. Er promovierte 1877 an der Universität Innsbruck und ging im selben Jahr an die Universität Wien. Nach Studienaufenthalten in München und Berlin kehrte er nach Innsbruck zurück, habilitierte sich und wurde 1887 zum außerordentlichen und 1890 zum ordentlichen Professor ernannt.

Das Porträtfoto stammt aus einem Fotoalbum zur vorzeitigen Emeritierung von Chemieprofessor Karl Senhofer (1841–1904). Die Kollegen der damaligen Philosophischen Fakultät in Innsbruck widmeten ihm das Fakultätsalbum.
