Description
English: Joint effort supports dignified transfer of U.S. senator. U.S. Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis walks with Cindy McCain, wife of Senator John McCain after greeting her at the steps of an 89th Airlift Wing C-32 aircraft upon arrival at Joint Base Andrews, Md., Aug. 30, 2018. The aircraft arrived with the remains of McCain and his family. The former senator’s remains are en route to lie in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. The 89th Airlift Wing provides global Special Air Mission airlift, logistics, aerial port and communications for the president, vice president, cabinet members, combatant commanders and other senior military and elected leaders as tasked by the White House, Air Force chief of staff and Air Mobility Command.
