English: John the Evangelist touches his mouth with the right hand – this is the symbol of the silence; the left hand of the apostle points to the text of the Gospel of John. The angel – the symbol of the Holy Spirit and the wisdom coming from God – is depicted on the right, above the shoulder of John.
