Description
Letter from John R. Wilson to his wife in Muskingum County, Ohio in 1864 regarding his time at Camp Dennison, Ohio, starting a prayer meeting and assisting the sick. Wilson was a farm laborer and enlisted in Company A, 78th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 26, 1862. He diedof disease at Lake Providence, Louisiana on April 17, 1863. An envelope addressed to Wilson March 3, 1863 accompanies the letter, with a typed note that states there was originallly a $20 Confederate bill in the envelope,which is not pat of the collection. The money was mentioned in the letter. There is also a military pass dated May 17, 1864 granting George O. Brastow permission to travel Fredericksburg, Virginia and back to "see about the remains of relatives and to visit those who are wounded."
