English: Marines assigned to Marine Barracks Washington led the procession in pouring rain from the chapel to the gravesite during the internment of Sen. John H. Glenn, Jr. The U.S. astronaut, former Ohio Senator and U.S. Marine was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery not far from the Space Shuttle Columbia Memorial and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Glenn, who died Dec. 8 at age 95, had a private burial at Arlington attended by relatives and invited guests. The service was scheduled for what would have been John and Annie Glenn's 74th wedding anniversary.
