Fra inventarprotokollen: Tegningerne blev i juni 1955 vist i London i fotografier til James Byam Shaw, der gik stærkt ind for deres kvalitet og vurderede dem til £ 200 (4.000 kr.). Kommentarer hos Reynolds, op.cit. 1984: Tegningen stammer fra en skitsebog (med Whatman.vandmærket 1822), der hovedsaglig blev brugt ved Salisbury 1829

EJB nov. 1997: JC tegnede Old Sarum mange gange fra forskellige vinkler, men KKSs tegning stemmer i det store hele overens med Lucas' mezzotine, vinklen og afstanden til den forhistoriske høj er den samme, markeringen af urolig himmel peger også frem mod mezzotinten, kun tegningens træer t.v. er udeladt hos Lucas. Ergo: Antagelig forarbejde til mezzotinten
  • Dansk: Papirets kant er en smule flosset, i.e. oprindelig et skitsebogsblad
