  • Dansk: Brev af 17.7.1967 fra prof. Charles Rhyne: "The gatehouse of the Cowdray House, Sussex", 4 miles west of Petworth where the verso drawing was done. Dateringen er ifølge dette antagelig 1834. Inskriptionen "Petworth 1834" fra Constables hånd. Dette gælder også inskr. "Cowdray Castle". Det vides fra korrespondance og andre tegninger, af C. besøgte Petworth i 1834;

Brev fra Charles S. Rhyne 29.5.1967 og efterfølgende korrespondance, især 17.7.1967 [i KKSs gamle brevarkiv]; KKS journal nr. 73/85; KKS journal nr. 73/149; KKS journal 74/230; KKS journal nr. 83/249;

EJB nov. 1997: Byam Sham bestemte lokaliteten som "The Gatehouse, Old Marney Hall", i Essex ved Colchester, men dette er ukorrekt. Der er ingen tvivl om, at bygningen på tegningen forestiller Cowdray House, cf. de hos Reynolds nævnte tegninger. Tegningen har indtil dato figureret under Byam Shaws fejlagtige titel. (Byam Shaws brev må bero i KKSs gamle brevarkiv, men brevet er ikke fundet. Forgæves eftersøgninger i arkivæskerne med korrespondance fra 1955-56
  • Dansk: Bladet består af to stykker papir, vandret sammenlimning f.n.
