English: John Kaye (1528-1594) of of Woodsome Hall, Almondbury, Yorkshire, husband of Dorothy Mauleverer (d.1590), depicted in a matching panel, formerly at Woodsome Hall. John is pictured in a girdled gown, the family tree of his progeny springing from his loins "the fruit of the house of Woodsome", and at the back are sixty six shields of gentle houses "the divers coats of sundry friends". Hung on either side of the fireplace suspended from iron cranes. In 1922 Woodsome Hall became a golf club and the panels were sold at auction, and are now displayed in the Tolson Museum, Huddersfield.[1] Both are buried in Almondbury Church. Arms above are Kaye (Argent, two bars sable) quartering Finchenden, heiress of Woodsome (Argent, on a chevron gules three goldfinches or). In 1726 Sir Arthur Kaye’s daughter and heiress married George Legge, Viscount Lewisham, eldest son of the Earl of Dartmouth. (http://kayfamilyassociationuk.com/articles/the-kay-arms). Booth, Argent, three boars' heads erect and erased sable, a crescent gules for difference. |
