Jobourg (Manche) Le phare de Goury vu depuis le Nez des Voidries. Au large du cap de la Hague, les naufrages étaient très nombreux, pendant la seule année 1823, 27 navires ont sombré dans les parages. Il fut donc décidé la construction d'un phare sur le Gros du Raz, rocher séparé du littoral par un canal d’environ 800 m de largeur. Les études commencèrent en 1834 et la construction, en granit, fut achevée en 1837. Le phare a été allumé pour le première fois le 1er novembre 1837. Le phare de Goury, a une hauteur de 48 mètres. Sa portée est de 25 kilomètres. La rotation de la lanterne est continue et elle délivre un éclat toute les cinq secondes. Fonctionnant d'abord au pétrole, le phare est aujourd'hui électrifié. Pendant la deuxième guerre mondiale, le phare resta éteint et ne fut rallumé qu'à la libération, début juillet 1944. Le phare est automatisé depuis 1988 et il n'y a plus de gardiens depuis 1990. |
