Description |
Edmund Bourke was born in 1761 on the Danish West Indian island of St. Croix. His father came from Ireland but after he settled on the island as a plantation owner, he became a Danish citizen in 1779. Young Edmund was sent to England and Copenhagen to study and he later entered the Danish diplomatic service, with his first appointment abroad in Poland in 1789. But by that time Juel had already portrayed him. Bourke died in France in 1821. |
