日本語: 獅子に牡丹（ししにぼたん）または 秋田牡丹（あきたぼたん）

みなさんよくご存知のように、これまで、三春藩主秋田家の家紋は「檜扇に違い鷹の羽」とされてきました。この紋は、檜木の薄い片を重ねて作った貴族用の扇の中央に、鷹の羽を二枚交差させたものです。 ところで、最近秋田家の系図を見ていたところ、そこには「家紋　檜扇鷲羽　獅子牡丹」と記されていました。この史料は、江戸時代の終わり頃、江戸幕府が諸大名や旗本から系図を提出させたものの写しと思われるので、内容に間違いがあるとは思われません。さらに、ここには、この紋になった理由が以下のように記されています。

建久年間（ちょうど鎌倉幕府ができた頃）、秋田家の先祖安東太郎貞秀は、何らかの功により後鳥羽上皇に召し出されました。この時、上皇は、ちょうど朝鮮国から到来した鷲の羽根二枚を檜扇に載せ貞秀に与えました。それまで、秋田家（安東家）の家紋は「獅子に牡丹」でしたが、この後、「檜扇に違い鷲の羽」が家紋になったのです。

この話が事実かどうかは別として、これだけの由来を伝えているのですから、鷹の羽ではなく、鷲の羽と考えて間違いないでしょう。
