Madjid (1) with Mr. Isoo Sadachi at the Japanese Consulate for the Dutch East Indies in Batavia

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: In Batavia, Madjid met and became acquainted with a Japanese man named Mr Isoo Sadachi. At that time Mr Sadachi was an employee of the Japanese Consulate General, under the Ministry of Foreign Development (Takumu-Sho). There was no Japanese Embassy in the Dutch East Indies at that time. I guess they were close, and already involved in the Indonesian independence movement. Incidentally, Madjid and Mr Isoo Sadachi shared the same birthday. They became close. Mr Sadachi was even willing to vouch for Madjid during his studies in Japan. When Madjid arrived in Japan, Mr Sadachi himself was still in Batavia. However, because of this friendship, Madjid was able to stay with Mr Sadachi's family in Tokyo. At first in Kagurazaka Shinjuku, then moved to the Ikebukuro area. From what I heard, Mr Sadachi's family always helped and cared for Madjid while he was studying in Tokyo.

Mr Isoo Sadachi came from a prominent family. His father was a pioneer of Japanese modern European architecture, a graduate of a leading school of architecture in England. He was involved in the design and construction of modern government buildings during the Meiji period. Mr Sadachi's mother was descended from a Dutch doctor. The family hails from the island of Kyushu, in western Japan.

Madjid Usman was the first Indonesian student to study in Japan in a Japanese University
