Summary
[edit]DescriptionJames Dickinson with Leeds Irish Elk (2a).jpg |
The Leeds Irish Elk, the skeleton of a great deer or Irish Elk (Megaloceros giganteus, now extinct), presented by philanthropist William Gott to Leeds Philosophical Society for their museum in 1862. It has been on display for over 150 years in the city, and is now in Leeds City Museum, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Showing the elk with taxidermist James Dickinson, MBE, who mounted the skeleton for the museum in 2008. The taxidermy in the background of this picture represents some of the other work done by Dickinson for the museum in 2008. The flying red kite (top left) and the partial dodo skeleton in the small glass case were new mounts by him. He also cleaned, restored and repaired the tiger (bottom left), the yak, and the polar bear. |
