Material: Walnut frame with leather upholstery Date: c. 1870s President Garfield’s “lopsided” chair is one of the most commented-upon artifacts on display in the Garfield home. By tradition, the piece was custom-made. Its original leather, now very worn, invites people to imagine James Garfield relaxing with a book (his back against the tall side and his legs swung over the low side) at the end of a busy day.
