Brüggen, 11 August 1982. RAF Brüggen (West Germany) breathed the Cold War. On a normal day, all four SEPECAT Jaguar GR1 squadrons of Royal Air Force Germany at RAF Brüggen were active, flying all day, multiple missions. A spotter could write down 30 different serial numbers. Add miles of barbed wire, RAF police on patrol, and the Bloodhound missiles, and you have a real war base. Less than two months after I took the photo, RAF Jaguar GR1 XX768 of 17 Squadron crashed. It went down with an engine fire on approach on 29 September 1982. The pilot ejected safely. |
