English: Battledress jacket said to have been worn by 23089 Captain Kenneth Sydney Turtill, 24 Infantry Battalion, 2NZEF, WW2 period (NB jacket marked 1948) badges- NZ ONWARD badge on collar; eagle cloth badge above pocket shoulder strap with plastic button; three cloth pips and NEW ZEALAND cloth slide title markings- stamped in black ink on lining- 'R.GREER and SON LTD. - AUCKLAND - SIZE 10' and 'N.Z. D. - MAY 1948 - E'

Notes During WW2 Captain Kenneth Sydney Turtill was a member of Auckland 24 Infantry Battalion. He served in the Middle East. but was captured on 22 July 1942 at El Mreir while reconnoitring in dark. He remained a POW until liberated in March 1945. The family has provided copies of his wartime correspondence, available to be used for Museum reference and educational purposes. His brother Alan Cecil Turtill served with 21 Infantry Battalion. Alan was killed in action in 29.11.1941 and was buried at NZ Cemetery Point 175.
