English: Graves of television producer Jack Wrather and his wife, actress Bonita Wrather (née Granville), at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California (grotto, lot 196, grave 12).
John Devereaux "Jack" Wrather, Jr. was born May 24, 1918 and was a petroleum millionaire and television producer, later investing in broadcast stations and resort properties. He produced The Lone Ranger, Sergeant Preston of the Yukon, and Lassie television series in the 1950s, financed and owned the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California, and owned several other hotels and resorts. Bonita Granville was born February 2, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 1936 film These Three, played the title character in four Nancy Drew films from 1938–39, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Wrather produced some of Granville's films; The the two married in 1947 and had two children (in addtion two children from Jack's previous marriage to Mollie O'Daniel). Bonita worked as a producer for several films and television productions of The Lone Ranger and Lassie for her husband's Wrather Corporation. Jack Wrather died of cancer on November 12, 1984 in Santa Monica, California at age 66. Bonita died of lung cancer on October 11, 1988 in Santa Monica at age 65 and was buried next to Jack. |
