[edit]DescriptionJ20170211-0006—Abies concolor—RPBG (32861800165).jpg | Abies concolor—white fir. Occurs in the Sierra Nevada from about 900 meters to the timberline. It is also found in the Cascades and Rocky Mountains and into Baja California. Once relatively uncommon in California forests, it has becomes a major component of these forests. The USDA attributes this change to the fire suppression techniques practiced through most of the 20th Century. The plant photographed resides in the Regional Parks Botanic Garden located in Tilden Regional Park near Berkeley, CA. |
