Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built in 1901 this Saat Kulesi or clock tower has become the landmark of Izmir. The city might have had others, but in 1922 a fire destroyed, during the Greek-Turkish war, most of the old city. A terrible loss. The clock tower is at Konak, which can be considered the heart of the city. The sea is at two hundred meters, but as you can read in a comment below, it used to be at the seaside in the twenties.
