Pencil drawing of the planned 'Island-class' cargo ship

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: During the 1950s, the United States Maritime Commission became concerned that World War II era civilian ships would become obsolete by the decade's end. To prevent block obsolescence, the group drew up designs to replace individual ship classes at a 1-1 ratio. One of these designs was the Island-class coastal general cargo ship, designed to replace the older C-1MAV-1 design. The US Congress refused to provide fundding for the ship, letting the design die out.
