Français : En 1921, une collecte est organisée aux États-Unis auprès d'associations de femmes, par une journaliste américaine Mary Meloney (1878-1843), admiratrice de la savante. Le but de l’opération est d’offrir à Marie Curie un gramme de radium, qui vaut à l’époque 100 000 dollars (environ 1 200 000 € actuels). Celle-ci se rend, accompagnée de ses filles, aux États-Unis, où elle est accueillie triomphalement en mai-juin 1921. Elle va, durant six semaines, faire une véritable tournée dans l’Est des États-Unis. Le président américain Warren G. Harding en personne lui remet une clef honorifique durant une cérémonie officielle à la Maison Blanche le 20 mai. Celle-ci ouvre un coffret contenant un gramme de radium.
