[edit]DescriptionIo - Voyager 2 (31269034234).png |
Voyager 2 image of Io taken on July 10, 1979, about 9 hours Voyager 2 made its closest approach to the moon. Here a thin crescent is backlit by the sun, with the rest of the globe backlit by reflected light from Jupiter. Three volcanic plumes are visible along the limb, two at the 11 o'clock position and one at the 3 o'clock position. In addition, two other active volcanoes can be seen at the 9 o'clock position and the 7 o'clock position. Image Credit: NASA / JPL / Voyager-ISS / Justin Cowart |
