| Description |
English: Looking north-northeast at the intersection of Beulah Avenue and Lakeview Road in the Glenville neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, where a part of the "Glenville shootout" occurred on July 23-24, 1968. In 1968, single-family homes would have stood on both sides of the street.
A group of four gunmen stood on the north and south sides of the intersection of Beulah Avenue and Lakeview Road (shown here) Gunman Leroy Mansfield Williams was killed here at about 8:30 PM. His body lay on the sidewalk in the foreground, between the white traffic sign on the right and the bollard on the left. He was borne away by friend around 9:15 PM, and taken to Huron Road Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival. The Glenville shootout sparked rioting on July 23 which lasted until July 27. More than 2,100 Ohio Army National Guardsmen had to be called in to quell the rioting. |
