Summary
[edit]DescriptionInstrument Cluster, Lexus LS600h L (US) - Flickr - skinnylawyer.jpg |
The Lexus LS, back in 1990, had launched the Japanese luxury car revolution, offering all the refinement and performance of American and German luxury cars, at a better quality, at much cheaper prices. Lexus's legendary dealer service also redefined the luxury car experience. The resounding success of Lexus is now an industry legend, and is currently being repeated by Hyundai with its Genesis and Equus luxury cars (though minus the dedicated dealers and their service). Over 20 years later, the LS is still a very respectable luxury car. The 600h ("h" stands for hybrid) uses a 5.0L V8 gasoline engine combined with an electric motor, to deliver power close to that of a 6.0L V12 engine (hence the 600 moniker), while offering more typical V8 economy. It is intended to compete with German V12 luxury flagships, such as the Mercedes-Benz S600 or the BMW 760Li. And it is not cheap either; starting price is over $112,000 right up there in German territory. I think I will pass. A standard LS, the LS460, still is well above $70,000. The instrument cluster looks nice, though like those of many other luxury cars of today, all gauges are virtual, displayed on a blank screen. I would hate to break that screen. Seen at Los Angeles International Auto Show, 2011. |
