[edit]DescriptionInsignia of USS Tacoma (PG-92) c1968.png |
Crest of the U.S. Navy patrol gunboat USS Tacoma (PG-92). This emblem, adopted in 1968-1969, was designed by Miss Arlou Hunter of Seattle, Washington (USA). Its main symbol is the Chinook Chieftain Tyee, performing a dance with lightning bolts and a tomahawk, representing speed and striking power. Behind him is Mt. Rainier, from whose Native American name (Tahoma) Tacoma is derived. The evergreen trees symbolize the three graces of faith, hope and charity. The arrowhead background represents the Chinook Native Americans, while the chain symbolizes the ships crew, with one link for each member. The Chinook motto is translated "Greetings for travelers upon the water." |
