Inocybe xanthomelas Boursier & Kühner Image location: Salt Point State Park, Sonoma Co., California, USA under bishop pine Dark blotch on cap is mud Recognized by sight: Sensu Pacific Coast Pruinose stipes with well-defined basal bulbs, drying/aging dark sooty gray. This species is known to be of frequent occurrence along the immediate coast in this area ( N. Sonoma/Mendocino/S. Humboldt) Used references: SVIMS Inocybe keys, Mushroom Observer, Mushroomhobby.com, Mycoportal, California Inocybe Key Based on microscopic features: Spores 7-8×10-11, with a few large nodules/warts and often somewhat pentagonal. Much like pictured in observations 224187 and 203708.
