Quatuor Arod - Haydn, Webern, von Zemlinsky Nederlands: ‘BBC New Generation Artist’, ‘ECHO Rising Star’, laureaat van de ARD-muziekwedstrijd. Na amper 5 jaar oogt het palmares van het Quatuor Arod indrukwekkend. Bij ons debuteren ze met opera en strijkkwartet. Zijn er twee genres die verder uiteen liggen? Toch is Zemlinsky's Tweede Kwartet een eenakter vol conflict, spanning en passie. En waargebeurd. Zemlinsky's zus Mathilde bedriegt haar man Arnold Schönberg met schilder Gerstl. De onvermijdelijke breuk drijft deze laatste tot zelfmoord. En stort Schönberg in de atonaliteit. Om dat alles te verwerken, realiseert Zemlinsky het onmogelijke. Schönberg transformeert in zijn eigen cello, broer en zus worden violen, Gerstl altviool. Dit muziekdrama moet de vervreemde vriend Schönberg terugwinnen. Op muzikaal én op menselijk vlak. L'ensemble fait ses débuts chez nous avec une œuvre qui est à la fois un opéra et un quatuor à cordes – y a-t-il deux genres musicaux plus éloignés l'un de l'autre ? Mais le Quatuor n° 2 de Zemlinsky est réellement une pièce en un acte bourrée de conflits, de suspense et de passion. Et c'est une histoire vraie ! Mathilde, la sœur de Zemlinsky, trompe son mari Arnold Schönberg avec l'artiste-peintre Gerstl. La rupture inévitable pousse ce dernier au suicide et précipite Schönberg dans l'atonalité. Afin de surmonter tout cela, Zemlinsky accomplit l'impossible : Schönberg se transforme en son propre violoncelle, le frère et la sœur deviennent des violons et Gerstl un alto. Ce drame musical doit servir à reconquérir, tant du point de vue musical qu'humain, Schönberg, l'ami qui s'est éloigné. And yet Zemlinsky’s Second Quartet is a single-act work full of conflict, tension and passion. And it’s based on a true story. Zemlinsky's sister Mathilde cheated on her husband Arnold Schönberg with the painter Gerstl. The inevitable break up drove the latter to suicide. And caused Schönberg to plunge into atonality. To process everything, Zemlinsky achieves the impossible. Schönberg is transformed into his own cello, brother and sister become the violin, and Gerstl the viola. This musical drama was designed to win back his estranged friend Schönberg. On both a musical and a human level. |
