| Description |
A shrine and statue of Hanuman, the monkey god. Worshippers would rubs off a little of the red oil of the statue to apply to their own forehead. I loved just watching and soaking in the pulse of the temple. There was always so much going on, so much purpose and intent with pilgrims and locals worshipping hundreds of shrines, idols and statues large and small throughout the space. Ever changing, musicians would wander by, large extended families would file through, the littlest ones in tow not entirely sure what this was all about. Some focused on Meenakshi, others Shiva, the two central dieties of the temple, but worshippers of Ganesh, Hanuman or Nandri has places too. |
