Summary
[edit]DescriptionIncline Plane - geograph.org.uk - 284288.jpg |
English: Incline Plane This is the site of an incline plane. The Donnington Wood Canal was built in 1767, by Lord Gower and the Gilbert brothers. It was later connected to a branch canal which went to the Lilleshall limestone quarries and kilns. Part of the canal can still be seen at the bottom of the incline. The 2 canals were initially connected by vertical shafts to transfer materials. But this incline was built later in 1796 to ease the operation. |
