In A Field Of Stars
Description

500px provided description: Although it is not rare to find a Shooting Star, they are indeed special. Their flowers point downward like tiny space rockets shooting toward the earth. Dodecatheon poeticum is native to the dryer areas near the lower Columbia River in Washington and Oregon.

The history behind the name of this plant is interesting. Dodeca means twelve, and Theos means God. It was believed that the plant was protected by the twelve major Greek gods.

One legend says that the points of the flowers always lean to the west. Early American settlers heading to the open plains of the west used the flowers to guide them. [#shooting star ,#Washington ,#Catherine Creek ,#Columbia River Gorge wildflower ,#Dodecatheon poeticum ,#Poet's Shooting Star]
