Text Appearing Before Image: e of F. coquichie^y in havingthe shoulders, wing-coverts, and outer webs of the secondaryflight-feathers uniform light red. Two female specimens {F. buckleyi) from Accra, now in theBritish Museum, which originally formed part of the Shelleycollection, may prove to be the females of this species. Theydiffer from the female of F. coqui in having the black stripesover the eye and round the throat nearly obsolete, the basal partof the inner primary and secondary flight-feathers chestnut, andthe upper-parts greyer. Range.—Bongo, Equatorial Africa, and perhaps extending toAccra on the West Coast. b. In the following species the breast and flanks are riot whitish-buff, uniformly barred with black. Adiilt Male.—General colour above brown, below buff; the sides of the head mostly bright chestnut; eyebrow stripe, PLATE XIA Text Appearing After Image: HUBBARDS FRANC OLIN THE FRANCOLINS. 113 and another stripe across the hinder part of the cheek, andthe throat white; from all the following species of this sectionit differs in having a wide band of feathers barred alternatelyivith black a?id white 7ound the neck. Total length, 11 inches •wing, 6-2 ; tail, 27 ; tarsus, 1-55. No spurs. Adult Female.—Differs from the male in being rather smalle-and in having the upper-parts barred with buff and the wing-coverts spotted with the same colour. Range.—Central East Africa; southern foot of Mount Elgonand Masai-land. This fine species, recently obtained for thefirst time by Mr. F. J.
