The letter P as a historiated initial (depicting Peter) in an illuminated Latin bible

A closeup of the illuminated letter P in the 1407AD Latin Bible on display in Malmesbury Abbey, Wiltshire, England. It was hand written in Belgium, by Gerard Brils, for reading aloud in a monastery.

The illumination is a capital letter P since the letters following are ETRUS, making the word PETRUS (Peter in Latin).

The text is the beginning of the First Epistle of Peter and reads:

tudinem peccatorum Explicit
epistola beati iacobi apostoli In
cipit epistola beati petri apostoli prima
Petrus apo
stolus ihe
su christi ele
ctis adue
nis disper
sionis pon
ti galaciae capadocie asye et
bithinie secundum prescienciam
