Description

Mandada edificar em 1620 apenas foi concluída em 1630, tendo, mesmo assim, prosseguido as obras tanto interiores como exteriores, sendo a frontaria, como hoje a conhecemos, do início do século XVIII.

No corpo da igreja destacam-se quatro arcos de volta inteira: dois que dão acesso às entradas norte e sul, outro à Capela do Senhor dos Passos e no restante foi colocado um altar de talha dourada do século XVIII.

O altar-mor em trono, para a exposição do Santíssimo, é de boa talha da mesma época; aí encontramos uma belíssima imagem de Cristo pregado na cruz. Por baixo do altar-mor uma “urna” envidraçada contém uma imagem do Senhor morto.

Das muitas imagens existentes destacamos a de Nossa Senhora da Soledade, de S. Francisco e a de St. António. Na frente do púlpito, encontra-se a tribuna dos “mesários”, balcão longitudinal do século XVIII.
