| Description | When active, mud volcanoes have a slurry like consistency. When dry, the slurry dries off into a sludge, as seen in this one which is drying out. My guide informed me that this mud has cosmetic properties and locals sometimes collect it for the purpose. If this is so, surprising there is no industry built around it already. Which is probably just as well, as we do not want market stalls and pushy vendors around this geological wonder! Eruptions though rare are known to occur, so a mud volcano with it's hole plugged with hardening sludge like this could possibly cause much damage if more gases underground does make it erupt.
