English: A number of sections in the lower city of Idalion were excavated. In section B, which is placed north to the east side of the western acropolis, excavators found a building of a public character and a sanctuary. The sanctuary waas dedicated to an unidentify divine pair (male and female), and the features of worship have more in common with Israelite and Canaanite cult practices than with the Aegean world, especially temples in Arad, Dan and Beth She'an. Standing stones were objects of worship, and the shrine included Baetylus. Some of the votive figures dedicated during the Cypro-Archaic period were incorporated into the rebuilt walls of the late Hellenistic/Early Roman period in the first century BCE. The sanctuary had been active from the 8th century BCE (Cypro-Geometric period) to the Roman era. In the picture: a look from the west at section B of the lower city of Idalion.
