Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The initial intent behind this poster was to describe a mathematical concept used during the Portuguese Discoveries, giving an insight into the importance of mathematics for this historical period. The chosen concept, popularized by a Portuguese mathematician, was the loxodrome. This geometry concept was used to guide the ships in a steady course, through the ocean, keeping a constant angle with the earth meridians. Although following the loxodrome was not the shortest route, it was the safest, as it was the easiest to maintain. This historical milestone paved the way to globalization and progress in scientific knowledge that lead to better world.
