| Description |
Native, warm-season, perennial, herb; usually less than 15 cm tall and with a corm (an underground bulb-like structure). Leaves are linear (to 4 mm wide), grass-like in appearance and sparsely covered in long silky hairs. Flowerheads have 1-3 flowers; each 8-14 mm wide and with 6 golden yellow tepals. Flowering is from late spring to early autumn. Found in open forests, woodlands, grasslands and swampy areas. Native biodiversity. Although it is readily grazed by stock, it is of little importance to livestock grazing as it usually occurs at low densities in pastures and produces very little bulk. Most common on lower fertility soils, where native and less vigorous naturalized grasses grow (e.g. carpet grass). No management information is available. This species was abundant in January after good Dec and Jan rains. The tops quickly died off in February as conditions dried. |
