Description (1976-L-00326): This view shows the test section (top) and model injector of the 12-Inch Mach 6 High-Reynolds Number Tunnel in Room D-106. With the injector cabinet’s door open, a model mounted on the injector’s sting is visible. In this, and many other hypersonic tunnels, shocks created during flow initiation and cessation can damage a model, so the injector, a small hydraulic elevator in this tunnel, inserts and removes it only during the period of stable flow.
