Description
English: House flag, Green's Blackwall line

Two house flags of Green's Blackwall line (R. & H. Green & Co.). Printed miniature flags whipped to wooden staffs. Presumably for table or desk 'corporate display' given that the staff size is about that of a pencil, with a pointed end for inserting in a suitable mount or other soft material. This design dates from 1843, when the Wigram & Green partnership dissolved. From 1824 to 1843 the joint design had the blue square over the red cross. This was retained by Wigram's and from 1896 was adopted by their successors, the Federal Steam Navigation Co.
