Markha Camp Site, Markha Valley trek, Ladakh
When we would first arrive at camp, the horsemen would allow the horses to graze. From inside my tent, I was able to observe the horses from close up. When I moved the horses were startled and I realized that they had not noticed me since I was sitting still inside the tent.

Beyond the trees was the latrine and the rubble of the riverbed. The latrine was enclosed on three sides only and although it was set behind a row of trees, you would be in full view of anyone coming up the riverbed. Needless to say, the mother-daughter team of Anne and Kira was not at all impressed with this design. I, on the other hand, embraced the culture and unabashedly set about doing my business in liberated comfort and without regard for the scene those approaching would have to suffer.
