[edit]DescriptionHitchin with up coal train passing geograph-2753615-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg |
English: Up coal train passing Hitchin. View northward, towards Peterborough on the ex-GN ECML, also Cambridge to the right. (See also TL1929 : Up freight passing Hitchin). The heaviest coal traffic of all brought up to London and the South-East was carried on the ECML, by frequent trains lumbering up from the New England Yards at Peterborough to Ferme Park Yard, Hornsey. This is a Class F train, headed by BR 9F 2-10-0 No. 92044 (built 1/55, withdrawn 4/65), one of a large team of heavy freight locomotives allocated to New England Depot for this traffic, which were all turned round at Hornsey and returned to Peterborough. |
