he code ofBy-Laws now in operation, and elected twelve men aswatchmen. From this time until the close of 1865, wasthe period of the Civil War. Nothing of importance, how-ever, occurs in the records, in reference to this event,except the votes concerning the passage of appropriationsfor bounties, etc. In July, 1861, the sum of twelve hun-dred dollars was appropriated towards furnishing suppliesto the families of volunteers, and William H. Witherle,Roland H. Bridgham, Charles J. Abbott, Samuel Adams,and George H. Emerson, were chosen to disburse thesame. 1862. In 1862, the sum of fourteen hundred dollarswas appropriated, to pay one hundred dollar bountieswith ; also the twenty dollar bounties. The troops raisedhere were also furnished with two days rations, uj)onleaving town. 1863. In the year 1863, the sum of two thousand dol-lars was appropriated for aid to the families of volunteers.Drafted men were also paid one hundred dollars, and vol-unteers two hundred dollars, as a town bounty.
