| Description |
English: Rennie's Mill was a fervently pro-Chinese Nationalist (and anti-Chinese Communist ) village located at the eastern edge of Kowloon, close to the boundary with the New Territories. Many pro-Nationalist communities existed in Hong Kong prior to 1997, but this one, which even had its own school system, was the best known. Although the residents had been promised in 1961 they could stay there indefinitely, as a sop to Beijing's Chinese Communists the Hong Kong government completely destroyed the village and redeveloped the area before the territory was handed over in 1997. Its residents were forcibly evicted in 1996, and re-housed in government estates dispersed across Kowloon. |
