He was connected with the Dutch Reformed Church of Flatlandsall his life, and no man was more seriously missed than he. A kindly gentle-man of the noblest type. (2). Mary C. Bergen, born March 31st, 1828; married October 11th,1847, Daniel Van Brunt of Bay Ridge, a son of Captain Jaques Van Brunt.Of all the descendants of the pioneer Dutchmen who settled this state in theearly part of the seventeenth century, I know of no one who possesses thegrace of friendship which we like to attribute to them as does Mrs. VanBrunt. She resides in Bay Ridge, surrounded by her children and grand-children, who though grown and in most cases married, live near her. Ageis sweet, when we can say, as we do now of this brother and sister, Mrs. VanBrunt and Mr. Bergen, that they grow nearer, dearer and more necessary totheir friends as they grow older. I count it a privilege to have known them. (34)

The Hendrick I. Lott Homestead, erected in 1800 The Hendrick I. Lott Homestead Extending from Kings Highway south is a level stretch of fertile landwhich reaches to the bay. On the west of it is the Strome Kil now calledGarretsons Creek and Mill Pond, and on the east it is divided by FlatbushAvenue from the eastern part of town. All this land at one time was ownedby two families, namely, the Lotts and Wyckoffs. Embracing fine soil, itwas no wonder that these people were able to acquire large land holdings,and occupy prominent positions in the town. About two hundred feet west of Flatbush Avenue on the Kings High-way, is a road which in early times was called the Road to Lotts Landing,later degenerating into Lotts Lane, and now called on all authorized mapsKimbells Road. Half way down this lane to Lotts Landing, now a thrivingfishing village called Hemlock City, stands a stately mansion, which at onetime in its history was the finest country house in Kings County.
