Opis vrste

D.t. 33–36 cm. U Evroaziji naseljava atlansku obalu, Mediteran, podunavlje, centralnu, južnu i istočnu Aziju. Kod malobrojnijih kontinentalnih populacija seoba je izraženija.Glavnina evropske populacije gnezdi se u priobalnim područjima, a staništa su joj plitki slatkovodni, braktični i morski ekosistemi, kao što su estuari, solane, slane močvare, stepska i slatinska jezera, taložnici otpadnih voda i dr. Gnezdi se na ostrvcima od blata ili drugog materijala u plitkoj vodi. Hrani se raznovrsnim vodenim beskičmenjacima, a duge noge joj omogućavaju da se hrani u dubokoj vodi gde druge šljukarice ne zalaze. U Evropi, kao i u Srbiji populacija je promenljive brojnosti. U Srbiji se gnezdi 100–200 parova, uglavnom u Vojvodini (Puzović et al 2003).
