Summary

[edit]
Description
English: An illustration from the report of the journey by Cornelis Matelief de Jonge for the VOC to the East Indies and China, 1605-1608. Control of the Ambon islands, the clove producing region of the Maluku Spice Islands, was central to the spice trade. The Portuguese were dominant between 1512 and 1605, when a monopoly was imposed by the Dutch East India Company or VOC (Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie, United East India Company, 1602–1800). After the imposition of the Dutch East India Company’s spice monopoly in the mid-seventeenth century, the Ambone-Lease archipelago, of which Ambon is the main island, became the world’s source of cloves.
Bahasa Indonesia: Ilustrasi dari laporan perjalanan Cornelis Matelief de Jonge untuk VOC ke Hindia Timur dan Cina, 1605-1608. Penguasaan pulau Ambon, daerah penghasil cengkeh di Kepulauan Rempah Maluku, merupakan pusat perdagangan rempah-rempah. Portugis mendominasi antara tahun 1512 dan 1605, ketika monopoli diberlakukan oleh Perusahaan Hindia Timur Belanda atau VOC (Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie, United East India Company, 1602–1800). Setelah pemberlakuan monopoli rempah-rempah Perusahaan Hindia Timur Belanda pada pertengahan abad ketujuh belas, kepulauan Ambone-Lease, di mana Ambon adalah pulau utamanya, menjadi sumber cengkeh dunia.
